Haunted House Tour is dedicated to bringing you the most accurate and objective ratings from houses we tour. For each rating we give, we use a special rating averaging system which considers in-depth reviews from as many as 50 tour members. This process keeps the ratings simple and precise, since each haunted house goer’s experience will be slightly different. By averaging all Haunted House Tour members’ ratings, we bring you both reliable and knowledgeable reviews of the hottest locations in the Tri-State.

Improved scale for the 2014 haunt season!

The following ratings are based on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest possible rating for any haunted attraction if scored perfectly. Our rating scale is combined with a criteria system to come up with each individual rating. The scale from lowest to highest is as follows:

  • (1 skull) – Poor
  • (2 skulls) – Average
  • (3 skulls) – Good
  • (4 skulls) – Excellent
  • (5 skulls) – Best of the best!

And each haunt is scored on the following criteria:

  • Curb appeal
  • Scare factor
  • Actor enthusiasm
  • Creativity
  • Overall rating

Our rating scale is combined with a category system to come up with each individual rating. The scale from lowest to highest is as follows:

  • Poor (0)
  • Average (+1)
  • Above Average (+2)
  • Excellent (+3)
  • Frightmaster Award Nomination (+4)
  • Frightmaster Award (+5)

The following ratings are based on a scale of 0-10, with 11 being the highest possible rating for any haunted attraction if scored perfectly and given extra credit points for scare factor. Our rating scale is combined with a category system used to come up with each individual rating. The scale from lowest to highest is as follows:

  • Disappointing (0 – 2 Points)
  • Poor (2.5 – 4 Points)
  • Average (4.5 – 5.5 Points)
  • Good (6 – 7.5 Points)
  • Very Good (7.5 – 8.5 Points)
  • Excellent (9 – 10 Points)
  • Frightmaster (10.5 – 11 Points)
